"I understand you dated this Byron, didn't you?" Mrs. Warner asked.
"His name is Brian," Adrienne said. "Yes, I did."
"Well," Mrs. Warner said, "wouldn't it be nice if you two got back together? And wouldn't it be wonderful if you did that before the debutante ball?" Mrs. Warner continued. "And then my darling Cameron could find someone more appropriate to escort her to the ball. Oh, Mr. Warner and I would be very grateful if that's what happened."
Mrs. Warner placed a thick envelope on the coffee table in front of Adrienne. "That's for you," she said. "Why don't you take Byron out for dinner? Rekindle the flame." She smiled. "If you two are back together before the ball, there will be a bigger bonus for you."
Mrs. Warner will pay me to steal my boyfriend back from Cameron? Amazing.
Adrienne reached for the envelope and smiled too. "Sure. No problem. . . ."
So begins another day of work for sixteen-year-old Adrienne Lewis in the fabulous Warner penthouse high above Manhattan. As she watches eight-year-old Emma at her after-school nanny job and tangles with Emma's beautiful but wicked teenage half sister, Cameron, Adrienne struggles to maintain her self-respect. But that's hard to do in this world manipulated by money and greed. Adrienne quickly learns that money can buy everything for girls like Cameron -- including Adrienne's boyfriend, Brian.
Adrienne's best friend, Liz Braun, has also gotten caught in the seductive web of the society scene. Handsome, wealthy Parker Devlin takes her out on jaw-dropping dates and buys her expensive gifts. But then there's sexy Isabelle Schuyler, whom Parker is seen escorting to balls in Aspen and Manhattan. Is Parker playing Liz? Or is this, indeed, how the rich play?
