From School Library Journal:
PreSchool-Grade 2-- An illustrated song about unrequited love that holds little appeal for children. After a summer romance, a mysterious fisherman abruptly ends his relationship with a young island woman, preferring to maintain his privacy. Unhappy and unwilling to let go of the past, the jilted lover shares her feelings: ``I fell apart like a rose,/ but the scent of my longing/ remains and it weeps/ like an old willow tree.'' The subject matter and use of language seems more appropriate for an adult audience. Set against a sand-textured background and surrounded by a rope frame, the brightly colored watercolors are static and empty of emotion. There's no music here. --Joy Fleishhacker, School Library Journal
