A Look Behind Nugget and Fang with Michael Slack

This is the first character sketch of Nugget and Fang. At this stage I just allow myself to play around with shapes and forms. These are early character concepts of Nugget. I do as many variations as possible going in many different directions until the character reveals itself. We went through many revisions of this page. This one features Fang as a Mime. Another one of my favorite rejected sketches. Biker dude Fang trying to impress the students with amazing motorcycle stunts.Tammi Sauer, a former teacher and library media specialist, is the full-time author of many popular picture books, including Quiet Wyatt, illustrated by Arthur Howard, and Nugget and Fang and Nugget and Fang Go to School, both illustrated by Michael Slack. Getting kids excited about reading and writing is her passion. Her other passion is tropical tea.
