I wrote this book with the aim of trying to demystify information technology and to explain its implications for business in a way that helps managers understand how to benefit from the new industrial revolution.
Many people assume that managers are generally knowledgeable and proficient with the use of IT but I have found that this is often not the case. This book is not intended to teach the use of any specific software programme but it does attempt to clarify the importance of IT and explain the various building blocks that together create an efficient infrastructure for modern business.
In particular, I have tried to show how managers can take control of IT issues, how to train and motivate staff in the use of IT, and how to work with consultants to develop effective systems. Inevitably, one is restricted in 72 pages to an overview of the subject but thanks to the effective presentation of the Essential Managers series I believe that we have also managed to include practical advice to help the reader deal with many business issues with increased confidence and up-to-date knowledge.
I welcome feedback from readers and am prepared to answer questions where possible so feel free to email me at steve@stevesleight.com.
