The history of bubble gum shows its early predecessors and then tells how chicle is gathered and processed. Children learn of bubble gum's introduction to the Eskimos, and even of its first trip into space. The history of the T-shirt traces the development of cotton fabric, then elaborates on the actual making of the shirts from designing and dyeing to sewing and delivery. The casual format of the books is deceptive. There's a lot of information here, yet the whimsical cartoon illustrations will insure that children are amused as they are informed. The humor in the illustrations is in keeping with the conversational tone of the text. These interesting overviews are just right for the primary grades. --Lori A.
