From Library Journal:
With a right-of-center orientation, this book chronicles the Anglo-American attempt to influence Albania away from the communist sphere. The justification for this interference is twofold: the West's realization of Albania's importance to Soviet channels into the Mediterranean, and the need for retaliation against Stalinist occupation of Eastern Europe. In addition to his keen insights into Cold War politics, Bethell provides a fascinating glimpse at postwar espionage, in particular the role of MI5 and Kim Philby. Largely dependent on primary source material, this book is an excellent consideration for Cold War studies and, far from being pedantic, it reads well and should be a fine nonfiction choice for Le Carre fans. Highly recommended for academic and public libraries. Mary Hemmings, McGill Univ. Medical Lib., Montreal
