The Hero's Journey of the Gay and Lesbian Mormon is a guide through what is still, for many religious people, a difficult terrain. It redefines a homosexual orientation not as a defect but as a special calling to take a deeply powerful journey and to serve the Tribe in unusual ways. Following the path of the hero laid out by mythologist Joseph Campbell, the journey is one that can lead to triumph and joy.

About the Author:
Carol Lynn Pearson, as a writer and a speaker, has worked tirelessly for many years toward ending the collision between religion and homosexuality. Part of her own path as a Seeker is told in her autobiogaphy, Goodbye, I Love You, the story of her marriage to a gay man. She is also the author of the stage play Facing East and of the book No More Goodbyes: Circling the Wagons around Our Gay Loved Ones. Ms. Pearson is a fourth-generation Mormon.
Review:
Many of our gay and lesbian Mormon youth have been painfully wounded by the very parents and elders entrusted with their care. My own daughter's father declared, when he discovered her sexual orientation, that he would rather she were dead! Several years later, she developed a life-threatening chronic illness. In her powerful new book, The Hero's Journey of the Gay and Lesbian Mormon, Carol Lynn Pearson gives us all new language and tools to re-name, re-claim, and re-frame our experience of the clash between our religious doctrines and homosexuality. I pray that this book, this Balm of Gilead, will be the means of healing individuals, families, and the very institution of the Mormon Church. --Melody LeBaron, mother of lesbian

I'm sitting at work with wet eyes and a used tissue at my desk. This piece is beautiful. I think that while many may not know Campbell's work they will recognize the hero's journey. It is something that simply resonates with us spiritually. The book is reassuring, and it provides direction and hope. I simply love it! --Nick Norman, LDS gay man

Outstanding! Has the capacity to be exceptionally significant! --Don Wright, educator
