Through a series of illustrated vignettes, Doodlebug Island chronicles the lives of the slightly off-centered folks who live on the island's scenic shores. Separated from the rest of Arizona by the waters of Oak Creek, Doodlebug Island provides a haven for the inhabitants and their eccentricities, which mix, clash and create a multitude of comical-and usually chaotic-situations. Written with a slightly acerbic but definitely humorous edge, Doodlebug Island challenges the status quo on a variety of issues and engages readers in the triumphs, trials and frustrations of its characters' daily lives.

From the Inside Flap:
Our stories take place deep inside the one acre woods of Doodlebug Island...and within those woods anything can happen! Discover for yourself the verdant foliage in which the small island nation of Doodlebug snuggles, and, while there, meet the quaint and slightly off-centered folks who call the island home. The individuals here have abandoned any concern for outside opinion and live their lives quite contentedly in their own decidedly chaotic way. Remoteness is thought to be somewhat responsible for the eccentricities residents display. That and a natural proclivity toward behaving in the totally uninhibited way each may be given to. Differences among the residents are celebrated; tolerance is tested and put to rest. With its cynical and definitely humorous edge, Doodlebug Island challenges the status quo on everything from politics to grammar. But, overall, it confirms the need to live life on our own terms—free from anything but a concern of others.
About the Author:
Bill Jordan is the fourth generation of an Arizona ranching family and grew up trailing cattle on land that then abutted Sky Harbor Airport. During World War II, he signed up to become a pilot in the Army Air Force and, after his high school graduation, entered training. But the program was soon cancelled, and he never saw action. With the constant building and repairing on the ranch of his youth, Bill learned the many aspects of construction at his father's hands, and an interest in building remained central in his life ever since. While he held jobs as a reporter, editor, and English teacher, his lifelong interest in construction led him to resign in 1979 from a Superintendency to become a full-time contractor. Today, he is partnered with his daughter and son-in-law in the luxury home market. While building is important to Bill, he points out that writing has been his other great pursuit. He has holds a passionate interest in history-especially the Civil War era-flying, and leaded glass work.
