George Bernard Shaw was an Irish writer who is considered to be one of the greatest playwrights of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Shaw's first major success was Arms and the Man, written in 1894, and he would go on to write other classics including Pygmalion, Major Barbara, and Mrs. Warren's Profession. Pygmalion is Shaw's most famous play as it was adapted into My Fair Lady. The play follows the famous Greek myth of a man who falls in love with one of his sculptures. Major Barbara is a play that centers around the life of the title character who helps poor people as a major in the Salvation army in London. Things become complicated when Barbara's estranged father donates to the Salvation army. Arms and the Man is a comedy that takes place during the Serbo-Bulgarian War of 1885. The play provides a humorous look at human nature and how it relates to war.
