Affirmative action is among the most controversial and divisive issues facing Americans today and its effectiveness and legitimacy are under constant scrutiny. Using a "pro and con" approach to this topic, the authors assess the merits and failures of affirmative action while avoiding the contentiousness that characterizes much of the discourse over racial preferences. "Affirmative Action" provides reasoned and balanced discussion and distinguishes between the theory and practice of affirmative action. The authors analyze the legal origins of affirmative action, discuss its implications on the future of American race relations, and suggest alternative strategies for sustaining an environment of supportive diversity.

Black grained boards and spine with bright gilt lettering on the spine. 276 pp 8vo. Hailed at the time of its original publication as a thorough and balanced debate of one of America's most vexing political issues, Affirmative Action employs a pro and con format to provide a concise introduction to this divisive debate. In part 1, Crosby and Herzberger draw on state and federal court decisions, federal decrees, and university policies to make their argument. Tomasson's opposition is based on the fact that it has shunted aside law and values based on individual rights and beliefs in the equality of opportunity and replaced them with programs and statues that justify group rights and equality of results. A clean presentable copy. Seller Inventory # 011813
