The topics coincide with material that would normally be covered over the three terms of the school year. They shadow the liturgical year of Advent, Christmas, Lent, Eastertide and Whitsun, providing songs that allow the children to learn about these important seasons of the Christian year and express their faith through the words and music.
God's creation and the world we live in are both discovered and celebrated with songs that encourage the children to learn about our responsibility towards developing nations, our duty to promote justice and peace and our task in proclaiming the Good News to the whole world. Relational issues such as baptism, eucharist, healing and reconciliation are explored in an ecumenical approach which makes the songs accessible to all.
Family, belonging, Church, community, Bible, service, witness and stewardship are presented by using the key vocabulary normally associated with mainstream RE syllabuses. On a few occasions additional texts have been provided in Welsh for the use of schools in Wales.
The compositions follow a variety of musical forms. Some are straightforward stanza settings, while others have a verse and chorus shape. There is a litany form intended for use during a prayer session and there are a handful of rounds suitable for the older children. Written well within the vocal range of the children, the songs are easily accompanied by a variety of instruments and the scores offer a simple guitar accompaniment that is quite easy to perform. In addition, a chart of basic guitar chords is provided for beginners.
