From the Author:
Providing self-help information to people with either psychological difficulties or medical illnesses has always been the reason I write. This book came about as the result of my being asked to write one specifically for persons with MS who, because of the seeming psychological problems of the illness, were blaming themselves. Writing it and interviewing both persons with MS and professionals working in the field was extremely rewarding and each person opened a new understanding for me and affirmed the fact that, indeed, this book needed to be written.
I believe we've provided new information on both the autoimmune connection of MS as a source of depression, anxiety and mood swings and promising research which indicates that exercise seems to provide untold benefits. Exercise may be the key to maintaining health in terms of mental and physical aspects of the body, but also may even prove to have reparative functions.
This journey has been one which I could not have known would be so rewarding for me in terms of producing a book which I believe provides the hope and the information anyone with either MS or a chronic medical illness deserves.
About the Author:

A licensed psychologist, Dr. Patricia A. Farrell has over 30 years of direct experience in the area of mental health with an emphasis on medical illness and related anxiety and depression. She is the Moderator for WebMD's Anxiety/Panic exchange, was the National Clinical Monitor for NYC's Mt. Sinai Medical Center for the first medication for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease, author of "How to Be Your Own Therapist," doctoral-level instructor of psychology, is in Who's Who in the World and Who's Who in America and maintains a website (drfarrell.net) which provides multiple pages of information on a variety of topics, all aimed at helping consumers and professionals.
