Bunny Bath - Hardcover

PreSchool-K --As with Anderson's other "Bunny" stories, these are hand-sized wordless books with delicate pencil sketches painted with bright pastel watercolors. Each quaint Beatrix Potter-like illustration features a boy, or a boy and a rabbit, and the objects of their play. As each new object is introduced to the picture on the left-hand page, it is highlighted on the right. The stories start on the endpapers (a predicament for processors) and end on the back covers. In Bunny Bath , Bunny is awakened by the boy coming in from the cold. Bunny helps him take off articles of clothing, and when the boy is undressed, they plunge into the tub to relax. In Bunny Surprise , Bunny brings the boy a present each time the page is turned. The emotions of the rabbit and boy are clearly visible, depicted through gestures and expressions, such as the rabbit's closed eyes and silly smirk, or the toothy grin of the boy as he throws his arms up into the air. These changes carry the simple plots of these quiet stories forward. Those sharing these books with children can create stories and point out the objects in the pictures--even the youngest toddler will be familiar with the clothing or food on the opposite page. --Denise Krell, New York Public Library
