Soft cover. Condition: Good. 1st Edition. Illustrated exhibit catalog. Covers with moderate wear and soiling; soiling and foxing to the end pages and pages edges; pages well thumbed. John Marin (1870 ? 1953) was an early American modernist artist. He is known for his abstract landscapes and watercolors. Marin had a retrospective show in 1936 at the Museum of Modern Art. Late in life Marin achieved tremendous prestige as an American painter, an elder statesman of American art.

Cloth. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Poor. 1st Edition. Clean, tight, square and bright first edition bound in tan cloth with black title on spine. No discernible flaws. Dust jacket is price-clipped, protected in removable mylar, severely chipped, worn, and tattered, with front inner flap nearly detached. Summation of Marin's work based on a memorial exhibition in 1956. Numerous color and B&W plates are accompanied by an essay by Wight; conclusion to a biography by Helm; and tributes by William Carlos Williams, Duncan Phillips, and Dorothy Norman. Unpaginated, includes selected bibliography. The postal charges quoted are for an average-sized book. What is amazing is that this exhibition was derived entirely from material by Marin that was stockpiled by Stieglitz and never offered for public sale.
